How photography became something more

Photography started as a creative outlet for me back in High School with my first class in the introduction to Darkroom Photography. I was immediately hooked and in awe of the whole process. I'd spend as much time as I could in that classroom, and I preferred spending more time in the darkroom than the cafeteria. From there I took the Digital Photography courses, and my love of photography only grew stronger. During that time, outside of school, I would almost always have a camera on me. I enjoyed creating images just about anywhere I went.

As time went on, and life became more about figuring out my future, photography was always there as an outlet for me- whether it was just for fun, or if I was asked to capture something important for others. I have always been a creative being at heart, and that is where I find the most joy. Over the years I've gotten into many artistic hobbies in my spare time from woodburning (pyrography), illustration (both on paper and digitally), as well as creating all kinds of digital products on Canva such as flyers, social media content, in-house marketing content for a previous job, to my own wedding invitations and business cards!

Over time photography became something much deeper — a way to slow down, pay attention, and preserve what matters before it slips away. What I love most about it is the chance to create something that you can hold onto forever, and comeback to those feelings from a certain season of life. Because as we know, time flies when we are all living our busy lives, and we are all just human beings wanting to enjoy our lives, remember the good times, the love, and the parts of life worth living.

I’m not interested in chasing perfection or creating images that feel stiff or overly polished. I’m drawn to the real moments — the ones that feel honest, and lived-in. The moments you might not think to remember until years later, when they’re suddenly the ones that mean the most.
